HOW DOES IT WORK?
Students will meet with the instructor for as little as 45 minutes to as long as 2 hours, depending on their need. During the session, the instructor will do one or more of the following:
learn ahead so that the instructor is teaching the way the student learns (this is known as the “inverse classroom”)
provide guidance on class projects and papers
create a study plan and work on study guides for an upcoming test
review homework problems with which the student is struggling
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF 1-ON-1 TUTORING?
Instead of catering to a group of students with different strengths and weaknesses, each lesson is tailored to a specific student. Rather than committing to a fixed, rigid schedule, one-on-one tutoring allows students to customize their schedules more easily. This style of instruction is great for busy students involved in sports, theatre, mock trial, and other time-consuming (but cool!) endeavors. One-on-one students also receive session update forms after EVERY session detailing what they did!
WHAT MATERIALS ARE USED?
Normally, students use their school materials (textbooks and handouts). If these materials don’t suffice, then MeriEducation will create a Custom Workbook (CWB) for a student, which contains worksheets and practice material put together by a tutor to address that student’s unique needs.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD A STUDENT COME IN?
Students normally come in for 1 hour sessions either once or twice a week.
However, some students who need grade rehabilitation might come in more often. Students in serious need of grade rehabilitation might benefit from an Academic Coach.
HOW MUCH IS IT?
We have three main tiers of tutors and rates start at $66.00 for 45 minutes. Please note that materials are NOT included in this price.
